PROJECT FOR PARENTS: A 13 Day countdown calendar for kiddies to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Jee’s AvtarPurbh. Treats for sikh children.

13 day Guru Nanak Dev Ji countdown calendar.jpg

We have created some homemade countdown calendars to help celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Jee’s Avtarpurb at home with the children. Perfect for Sikh families, it doesn’t take too long to make and will give kids 13 days worth of treats and teachings leading up to the big day itself. (We have purposefully chosen 13 days so parents can explain the importance of ‘tera’ in Guru Nanak Dev Jee’s life and in Sikhi theology.)

START DATE: Wednesday 18th November 2020

END DATE: Open 13th bag - Monday 30th November 2020 (Date of Guru Nanak Dev Jee’s Avtarpurb this year.)

SUITABLE FOR: Children aged 3+

BUILDS SKILLS:

  • Builds patience

  • Encourages a personal relationship with Guru Nanak Dev Jee.

  • Develop love and Sharda for Gurus and Gurbani.

example treats.jpg

Each bag contains a treat (can be anything you think would be suitable and can be personalised based on your child preferences/dietary requirements. Sweets, chocolates, small toys, nuts, fruit etc). (Example of treats that can be added is shown in the image here but it could be as simple as one quality street chocolate in each bag or a couple of nuts etc). The idea is to build excitement leading up to the Gurpurbh day itself and to encourage young children to understand that it is Guru Nanak Dev Jee that provides us with everything.

We made the 13th-day bag larger with more treats added and some colouring sheets of Guru Nanak Dev Jee to celebrate Gurpurb day itself.

Each bag also contains a daily task based on Guru Nanak Dev Jee’s 3 golden rules.
